Galvan Industries' 300-Ton Contribution To Airport Garage Earns Company 2006 AGA Galvanizing Excellence Award Harrisburg, NC -- An airport parking deck designed to mirror the curvature of a modern airplane wing and built with 300 tons of hot-dipped galvanized steel has earned Galvan Industries more honors from the American Galvanizers Association. Ground was broken on the new 3,000-space parking facility at Charlotte Douglas International Airport in late 2004. Brian Bresg of LS3P Associates, Ltd. of Charlotte, served as the projectÕs specifier and architect. Jeff Adams of HNTB in Kansas City, MO, coordinated engineering support.
The design and engineering team decided to achieve the winged look by attaching curved stainless steel cladding to the galvanized structural steel frame. The combination provided a uniform appearance that cost less than using stainless steel alone. Galvanizing took advantage of the hot dip coating's extended resistance to corrosion, exceptional maintenance-free service life and attractiveness.
In 2004, the company earned a coveted Most Distinguished Award for its contribution to an innovative parking structure at Lowe's headquarters. Last year, Galvan was honored for the hot-dip steel and cable it supplied for the Liberty Bridge in Greenville, SC -- the first curved and cantilevered suspended walking bridge in the U.S. Since 1958, Galvan Industries has provided the ultimate in corrosion control to steel fabricators and manufacturers. The first hot-dip galvanizing operation in the Carolinas, the company has grown to become the largest capacity contract galvanizer in the Southeast.
