Value Engineering Considerations of Galvanized Coatings
Includes the film "Too Late for Wuppertal" (see film summary on the back of this card). Defines the meaning and purpose of value engineering; compares mechanics of metallic zinc coating systems with that of paints; describes the ability to measure the thickness of a zinc coating and predict its life for various atmospheres; provides case study comparison of the cost of galvanizing with that of paints, as applied to structural steel itemizes factors to be considered in coating cost comparisons; identifies situations in which galvanizing should be painted; outlines six-step procedure to establish steel protection cost. (Approx. 1 hour)

Design Considerations for Galvanized Structures
Deals with topics relating to the design and erection of bolted and welded galvanized structures. These topics include steel selection, comparison for mechanical properties and fatigue resistance of members and welds, both before and after galvanizing, specifications and galvanized fasteners, use of galvanized bolts in bearing and friction connections, behavior of galvanized contacting surfaces in friction connection design of field welding connectins to maximize the integrity of welds on zinc coated steel, recommendations for touch-up of field welds. (Approx. 45 minutes)

Film Summaries -- Think About It
Describes the corrosion process, the relationship between metals in the galvanic series, and illustrates how one metal will sacrifice itself to save another from corrosion. Examines the failure of a paint coating; contrasts the performance of ordinary paint with zinc rich paint. Depicts zinc coating methods including metallizing, hot dip galvanizing, continuous sheet galvanizing, electroplating and sherardizing. Explains relationships between zinc thickness, environment and service life. Shows examples and benefits of galvanized products in service. (Produced by the Zinc Development Assoc.. and the Zinc Institute. Running time 22 min.)
